For the first time in the history of the 26-year-old high school football extravaganza, an APS school will participate in the Corky Kell Classic – one of the nation’s premier season-opening high school football events that features the state’s top teams. The Mays Raiders will represent APS when they take on Norcross (Gwinnett County) in the finale of the nine-game Classic at Mercedes Benz Stadium, Saturday at 8:45 p.m. Since 2013, Mays has compiled a record of 52-13 with a trip to the Class AAAAA state finals and two region championships. Tickets are $20 in advance at Mays (3450 Benjamin E. Mays Drive, SW) and Lakewood Stadium (70 Claire Drive, SE), $25 at the gate. Commemorative T-shirts are available at the school for $10.
