Atlanta Public Schools Athletics Roundup (Aug. 31, 2026): APS Cross Country Season Opens with 700+ Runners

Highlights Around the District:

• Cross Country stormed onto the scene with more than 700 runners competing across middle school and high school.
• Therrell volleyball held off late rallies by Carver and won back-to-back sets for a 2-0 win (25-19, 25-21).
• BEST Academy football posted a dominating win over Towers High School!
• Mays continues to roll with a commanding victory over powerhouse Northside Warner Robins.
• Douglass football stays hot with a convincing win over state-ranked Hampton HS.
• Maynard Jackson softball had a strong week with two elite wins against DeKalb opponents.
• Midtown and North Atlanta volleyball made APS history, competing in the first district varsity outdoor volleyball event! 
• In football, Therrell’s defense forced turnovers and controlled the game in a 24-0 shutout against Booker T. Washington.
