Amanda Ann Watts is the Class of 2014 Valedictorian at Benjamin E. Mays High School.
A quote by Dr. Benjamin Elijah Mays has resonated with Amanda Watts over the years: “Youth is not a time in life; it is a state of mind.” This idea was instilled in Amanda by her late grandmother, to whom she attributes much of her success in and outside of the classroom. Amanda’s mother, father and brother are her biggest fans, and with their continued support, she says she is destined for greatness.
She also attributes an abundance of her success to the experiences she has endured and enjoyed throughout her matriculation at Mays. A village of loving individuals has supported Amanda, and she is grateful for their guidance. She is especially appreciative of the assistance provided by Mr. Dante Edwards and Ms. Nikki Smith. They, along with numerous friends and other mentors, have been instrumental in helping Amanda achieve all that she has thus far.
Amanda plans to attended Duke University and major in Neuroscience. Her career goal is to become a neurosurgeon.
The graduation ceremony for Mays High School is Saturday, May 4 at 6 p.m at the Atlanta Civic Center.
