Pre-K students from Adamsville Primary, Bethune Elementary, and Beecher Hills Elementary participated in the annual Read for the Record event at the Imagine It Children’s Museum.
Each year, millions of individuals come together to celebrate literacy and promote early childhood education as a part of Jumpstart’s premiere national campaign, Read for the Record.
On October 3, 2013, people across the country united to read the children’s book “Otis” by Loren Long in support of Jumpstart’s mission: to work toward the day every child in America enters kindergarten prepared to succeed.
2.3 million people participated in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record in 2012.
Seven years ago Jumpstart launched the first Read for the Record campaign with the classic story “The Little Engine that Could.” Jumpstart’s supporters helped set a new record for reading the same book on the same day, and in the process, created a national forum for concerned citizens to voice their support of early education.
Each year, the campaign has shone a national spotlight on America’s early education achievement gap and highlighted Jumpstart’s programs as a way to address this crisis. Since 2006, the campaign has engaged more than 9 MILLION children while raising more than $8 MILLION for early education programs. Jumpstart has provided more than 1.2 MILLION books for children in low-income neighborhoods.
