Do you know what happens during and after a rainstorm? All of the water that rushes off of the buildings and pavements go back into the local waterways, bringing a lot of pollution with it. By capturing rainwater with rain barrels and water gardens, we can use it to water plants, flush toilets, and much more!
The parents, students, teachers and many volunteers of P.L. Dunbar Elementary participated in our first Green Apple Day Service Project on Saturday, September 29th. The rambunctious group of about 100 people joined together to paint and decorate rain barrels that will be donated to the Atlanta Fire Department, Atlanta’s Mayor’s Office, and Habesha, Inc.  The students, staff, and students at Dunbar are supporting healthy and sustainable schools by taking action in our community.
The event was a great success. We would like to give a special thank you to all of the people that came out to help us, especially the volunteers from HD Architects, Atlanta Fire and Rescue, Holden Construction Group, US Green Building Council’s Center for Green Schools-GA, TCWFI-GHHI, Women of Purpose, Ernest & Young, HTS Enterprises, G.I.F.T.S Inc., and City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office Of Sustainability.
