Parkside Elementary School teacher Bejanae Kareem will receive $500 worth of graphic novels, reading intervention and interactive writing tools as the result of a Brightpoint Literacy mini-grant she earned for motivating and engaging boys in literacy learning.

Ms. Kareem’s grant proposal focused on obtaining books to increase writing proficiency and foster a love of reading.

Her proposal was one of 120 that received over 2,000 on-line votes, which earned her the mini-grant for the purchase of reading and writing supplies for her second-grade classroom.
