Parkside Elementary selected for summer NASA program

Parkside Elementary School has been selected to represent Atlanta Public Schools in NASA’s 2011 Teaching From Space Reduced Gravity Education Program.

Ronnie Thomas and Bejanae Kareem, both teachers at Parkside, are scheduled to participate in this year’s NASA program. In conjunction with teachers from New Jersey and Arizona, Thomas and Kareem will conduct an experiment involving the impact of various gravity conditions on bubbles.

The program enables selected educator teams to propose, design and fabricate a reduced gravity experiment and test and evaluate their experiment aboard a NASA aircraft. The aircraft executes a series of dives and climbs to create periods of micro and hyper gravity, ranging from 0 gs to 2 gs.

The Parkside team is scheduled to be in Houston June 24 through July 2 for the exercise.
