Atlanta City Council recognizes Douglass’ Stock Market Team

by talkupaps

Atlanta City Council members Michael Julian Bond and Keisha Lance Bottoms presented a proclamation on June 7 to Douglass High School’s Stock Market Team, which placed first in the 2010 Stock Market Game Capitol Hill Challenge (CHC).

Since its inception in 2004, CHC has engaged 239 U.S. Representatives and 112 U.S. Senators with more than 5,000 students across the country. The program takes place every spring with student teams managing a hypothetical $100,000 online portfolio, investing in stocks, bonds and mutual funds. Classroom instruction focuses on the importance of long-term saving and investing. Douglass’ winning team — and their teacher — will travel to Washington, D.C., to meet their Congressional representative and tour financial landmarks and national monuments.

The City Council also recognized Communities in Schools Atlanta (pictured above) for its impact on students through the Family Literacy Block Party Event, which was hosted by  Cleveland Avenue Elementary and included Heritage Academy.

Special thanks to the Atlanta City Council’s communications office for sharing good news about APS.
