Atlanta Public Schools brought the energy to The Gateway Center Arena for APS Night with the Atlanta Dream and helped cheer the hometown WNBA team to an 82-70 win over the Connecticut Sun.
The Barack and Michelle Obama Academy Dazzling Dolls and Gents put on an amazing performance to energize the crowd before tip-off.
“The girls were extremely excited,” BAMO Dazzling Dolls and Gents sponsor Tanaka Applin said. “This means a lot to our community because it’s providing our scholars with opportunities that they may not receive.”
The Atlanta Dream has partnered with APS in many ways. Last school year, Dream forward Nia Coffey visited Howard Middle School for National Girls and Women in Sports Day. APS Night was another great opportunity for the Dream to partner with APS in celebrating educators and providing opportunities for scholars.
After the game, the BAMO Dazzling Dolls and Gents were joined by APS superintendent Dr. Bryan Johnson and his family, the Maynard Jackson High School championship basketball team, and other APS staff at center court for a photo to commemorate APS Night.
“APS Night was a great opportunity to recognize our Teacher of the Year (Taylor Richardson), the Maynard Jackson High School girls’ basketball state championship team, and the Barack and Michelle Obama dance team,” Dr. Johnson said. “We appreciate the Dream partnership. I got the chance to learn a little bit more about what they do and what they’ve done.”
