APS 2024 Baseball All-Stars compete in third APS vs. DeKalb All-Star Game

by Thomas Scott

The best of Atlanta Public Schools and DeKalb County’s high school baseball players faced each other in the third annual APS vs. DeKalb All-Star Game to finish the season.

This year, DeKalb hosted the All-Star game at Redan High School and broke the series tie with a 9-6 win over APS.

The friendly, cross-county rivalry was an exciting and entertaining showcase of the talented student-athletes from both districts.

“A lot of these guys know each other through the rec leagues, AAU and travel baseball. It’s all fun and games,” APS director of athletics Corrie Collier said. “But they know how to get after each other on the field and just have a good time.”

APS’ roster was filled with players who received All-Region honors, and a few players who have already made their commitments to play at the collegiate level. Each year, APS schools continue to produce talented athletes who are prepared for life beyond high school.

“Got to give credit to Rendell Jackson,” Collier said. “He’s doing a great job of showcasing these kids and their abilities on the baseball diamond. One thing that we definitely try and do in APS is prepare them to be young men as well as great student athletes.”

In previous years, APS has had several notable All-Stars drafted by Major League Baseball organizations. Termarr Johnson, a Mays High School graduate, was drafted fourth overall in the 2022 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. North Atlanta’s Antonio Anderson (Boston Red Sox) and Isaiah Drake (Atlanta Braves) were both drafted in the 2023 MLB Draft.

Congratulations to the APS All-Stars on a great 2024 season. Next year, APS will host the All-Star game and look to tie up the series with a win.
