It’s Time to Amp Up, APS! Atlanta Public Schools Launches First-of-its-Kind Districtwide Equity Survey

Atlanta Public Schools is excited to announce yet another opportunity to amplify the voices of APS stakeholders districtwide!

Beginning Monday, Dec. 5, through Friday, Dec. 16, APS will hear from as many of our students, teachers, and school staff, as possible on what matters most in advancing equity throughout APS. Led by the Atlanta Public Schools Center for Equity + Social Justice, the Amp Up APS! Districtwide Equity Survey, is powered by Panorama Education

Families will begin participating in the survey beginning Wednesday, Dec. 7.

This first-of-its-kind survey opportunity offers APS the opportunity to amplify the voices of students, teachers/school staff, and families – our most important stakeholders – in an effort to remain equity-guided and data informed in our district decisions. It will also provide APS with actionable data to: (1) learn more about the diverse learning needs and experiences of our students; (2) zoom in on ways to best support students and families most impacted by inequities; (3) celebrate and replicate bright spots and best practices districtwide; and (4) track our progress toward continuously creating a better APS for all.

The Amp Up APS! Districtwide Equity Survey invites APS stakeholders to share their unique perspectives, which will shape the district’s collective efforts to advance equity. The survey will be administered to students (grades 6-12), teachers/school staff (all grades), and families (all grades) in APS traditional (non-charter/partner) schools districtwide.

“We appreciate the opportunity to hear from our families, who are a valuable resource to Atlanta Public Schools,” said Keasha Copeland, director of the Office of Family Engagement. “We want to know how schools are working with families and the community to positively impact student achievement and success. These voices matter, and we are excited to capture this information to better inform how APS can support our scholars, schools, and families.”

The survey data will be used to:

  • Inform our culturally and linguistically responsive professional learning plans, goal development, and student support plans
  • Provide meaningful school-level data tools to guide our budget development and decision-making on how we allocate resources to advance equity
  • Measure progress on the district’s strategic priorities: including, Atlanta Board of Education goals/guardrails, Profile of a Graduate expectations, and Equity Commitments

Overall, the survey is part of a larger, evidence-based strategy that Atlanta Public Schools has embraced to inform the district’s work and approach to advancing equity.

There are five evidence-based strategies APS is employing to accelerate the impact of our work and improve student outcomes:

Strategy One: deals with culturally & linguistically responsive instruction.

Strategy Two: deals with school culture.

Strategy Three: deals with intellectual and instructional engagement.

Strategy Four: deals with the cultural competency of staff.

Strategy Five: deals with school leadership.

Additionally, the survey serves as a starting point to create meaningful and impactful dialogue within APS and schools. It will also support staff in building their equity lens for seeing and addressing equity issues related to their scopes of work.

Email if you have any questions or ways to contribute to district success in this effort!
