Students from the Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy (CSKYWLA) will travel to Orlando, Florida, on Thursday, March 31, to compete in the prestigious World Strides Heritage Festival.

While there, members of CSKYWLA’s chorus, dance, drama, and band ensembles will have the opportunity to perform in front of an international audience and be adjudicated by nationally renowned judges in each of the four performing areas. Each performing ensemble will then compete for an invitation to Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Jovan Burton, director of bands at CSKYWLA, is excited about the possibility of his students performing at the famed concert hall.

“The young ladies have worked hard for this opportunity and hope to score very well to receive a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall,” Burton said.

The WorldStrides festival provides world-class performance opportunities in music, drama, and dance. During the festival, CSKYWLA students will have the opportunity to work with renowned conductors, adjudicators and choreographers who aim to challenge performers’ creativity and inspire them to new heights of artistry.
