The Mighty Miles Chorus performs at the Georgia State Capitol

Miles_Chorus1The student singers at Miles Intermediate School are known as The Mighty Miles Chorus. On Friday, April 2, 2015 they dressed in their best chorus attire and arrived at the Capitol excited about their unforgettable day. The student performers held a 30-minute concert that included our nation’s national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner,” as well as “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” the song made famous by the movie, “The Wizard of Oz.”

Students also performed “Yes You Can,” a song in honor of National Autism Awareness Day. The finale, “The Ballad of the Underground Railroad,” was selected to honor one of America’s greatest historical figures, Harriet Tubman.

In addition, the students took a picture with the portrait of one of the Atlanta Public Schools’ famous alums, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

During the visit, the chorus was able to listen in on the Senate and the House during the legislative session. Lastly, the chorus was invited by Governor Nathan Deal’s office staff to take a picture inside of the Governor’s office. The Mighty Miles Chorus, under the direction of Ms. Letricia Henson, is proud to represent the Atlanta Public Schools Office of Fine and Performing Arts and our great state of Georgia. The Miles Chorus, Ms. Henson, choraldirector and Dr. Hood (Miles Intermediate Resource teacher/chaperone), all had a wonderful day performing and learning about the legislative process under the Gold Dome at our capitol.
