As a member of the first graduating class of Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy (CSK) High School, Jamaya is honored to be the school’s first valedictorian.

CSK is a single gender school for girls that opened in 2007 with sixth-grade students. They will now celebrate their inaugural graduating class during a joint ceremony with B.E.S.T. Academy, a single gender school for boys, on May 23 at 6 p.m.

She appreciates the sisterhood she developed with her peers during her seven-year tenure as a CSK middle and high school student, and the nurturing Jamaya received from the outstanding CSK administration, teachers and support staff helped her reach her academic and personal goals.

Jamaya has honed in on her journalism skills by serving as a volunteer teen staff member at VOX Teen Communications for the past four years.

She is ecstatic to be attending her dream school, Syracuse university, as a Posse Scholar this fall. Jamaya’s favorite quote is “When you go the extra mile, it’s never crowded.”

Jamaya’s career goal is to become a documentarian.
