Washington students to serve during Georgia General Assembly

Four Booker T. Washington High School students, all members of the Class of 2014, will participate in the
George State Senate Page Program on Friday, March 7, 2014.  Alexandria Jones, DeShawn Fleming, Charkira Patrick, and Tobias Lee will be at the Georgia State Capitol working throughout the day for State Senator Jason Carter.

Tuesday, March 11, three Washington ninth grade students will also participate in the Georgia House of Representatives Page Program.  Zania Gebre-Hiwet, Benjamin Leverette, and Keynayoka Benton, Jr. will work
for Representative Willie Talton.

The Georgia State Senate and Georgia House of Representatives Page Program offers students age 12 and over a first-hand opportunity to visit the Capitol, observe, and participate in the legislative process. Pages serve the State Senators and Representatives by delivering important information and messages to Assembly members in their Chambers during the Legislative Session Day. The Page Program has become an essential part of the services provided to both the legislators and the public.

For over 50 years, the experience of a legislative page has sparked many political aspirations, and it has been a connective link between elected leaders and Georgia’s young students.
