Dunbar Elementary School joined Educare Atlanta in unveiling their new icon at the Dunbar Learning Complex. The students, administrators, and parents from both learning sites celebrated their partnership and this major step forward for early education in Georgia.

Marcus Cook, a first grade student at Dunbar, read a tribute to teachers along with his former Educare Atlanta Pre-K Teacher, Mrs. Green.  Principal of Dunbar Elementary, Karen Brown-Collier, and Director of Educare Atlanta, Steve White, also thanked parents for their continuous support for both schools. In addition, pre-kindergarten students sang the school song, “United We Stand.”

Educare Atlanta joined the Educare Learning Network in 2012, two years after the state-of-the-art school was opened by Sheltering Arms Early Education & Family Centers, Atlanta Public Schools and The Annie E. Casey Foundation. Originally named the Early Learning and Literacy Resource Center, the school serves low-income young children and families in Atlanta’s Mechanicsville neighborhood, less than a mile from City Hall and the State Capitol.

Educare Atlanta is located on the first floor of Dunbar Elementary School, and teachers and staff from both schools collaborate to align curriculum from infant-toddler programs through fifth grade. The school also partners with parents and teachers to operate a voluntary home visiting program for families in the community.

Educare is a research-based program that prepares young, at-risk children for school; a specially designed place that nurtures early learning and sends a bold message about the value of investing in the first five years; an innovative partnership between the public and private sectors to create a more efficient, more effective early learning program; and a compelling platform to drive change among policymakers, business leaders and early providers by showing what quality early learning looks like.
