Students heard a riveting account of the Holocaust from a Holocaust Survivor, 87-year-old Dr. Schoenfeld. Dr. Schoenfeld shared his personal experiences of survival in Nazi concentration camps, and he explained some of the atrocities he witnessed from 1944 to 1945 as a Jewish prisoner.
“It is a distinct honor that Mayor Kasim Reed has selected JCYMS as the site for receiving the Holocaust Learning Trunk to teach about the consequences of hate, prejudice and discrimination,” explained Annette Smith, a teacher at Young Middle School. “We gladly accept this honorable charge.”
For the remainder of the year, Young Middle School students will read books, view documentaries, and participate in various learning activities to create artwork, projects, and literature responses associated with the tragic era of the Holocaust.
