The Carson Scholars Fund and Delta Air Lines recently dedicated the area’s first Ben Carson Reading Room at L. O. Kimberly Elementary School.  The creation of this room compliments the school’s focus on literacy and benefit the entire school community.
The Ben Carson Reading Project is one of two educational programs implemented by the Carson Scholars Fund.  The Ben Carson Reading Project, in conjunction with community partners, provides funding and support to schools so that they can create a nurturing environment for children to feel safe and secure as they develop their reading skills. Each Reading Room is filled with child friendly furniture and hundreds of books for students to explore from a variety of authors, topics, and genres. The cozy environment encourages students and their families to recognize the importance of everyday independent leisure reading. Dr. Benjamin Carson credits reading as being the catalyst to his success and hopes to share this message with students.
Currently there are 55 Ben Carson Reading Rooms serving students in 7 states.
The Carson Scholars Fund is a nonprofit public charity founded in 1994 by world-renowned Johns Hopkins pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Carson and his wife, Candy, to motivate and reward academic excellence in young people.
