Jessica Doanes (l) and Raven Tukes (r) are summer interns with Atlanta Public Schools. Raven will attend College of the Holy Cross (MA) and Jessica, Hampshire College (MA) in the fall.
This summer Atlanta Public Schools is happy to have several interns working with us from the prestigious 21st Century Atlanta Scholars program. Interns  represent the top 10 percent of their APS graduating classes and are graduates of Atlanta Public Schools who are either attending or entering one of the “Little Ivies” such as Tufts or Wesleyan this fall.Â
Interns work in various departments at the CLL building downtown and in the Office of High Schools. Scholars go thru a rigorous application process to become a part of the program during their high school years in APS.  Once chosen, participants attend SAT prep courses, perform community service, learn about topics such as finance, budgeting, the college application process, diversity training and other skills that will make them successful not only in college, but also in life after graduation.
Raven Tukes, a recent graduate of South Atlanta High School and Jessica Doanes, a member of the 2010 graduating class of Douglass High School are currently interns in the Office of the Chief of Staff. They will attend College of the Holy Cross and Hampshire College, repectively, in Massachussets.Â
“I’m looking for a strong undergraduate experience,” says Raven.  “I plan to continue in school until I’ve completed my doctoral studies. 21st Century has prepared me for real life situations and I am no longer afraid of my transition to college.” Raven will major in English with a minor in Religious Studies or Russian.Â
Congratulations to all of our summer interns and best wishes for a phenomenal year at some of our country’s best colleges.
