Four APS students earn prestigious Horatio Alger scholarships

Even during summer months, accolades continue for the APS class of 2010. Fifty Georgia high school students, including four from APS, earned $5,000 scholarships from the prestigious Horatio Alger Association. Please offer a hearty congratulations to the following APS students: Kamalia Blunt, Booker T Washington, LaToria Dixon, Frederick Douglas High School, Shaeroya Earls, Booker T Washington, and Amanda Harrison, Frederick Douglas High School.

The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc. bears the name of the renowned author Horatio Alger, Jr., whose tales of overcoming adversity through unyielding perseverance and basic moral principles captivated the public in the late 19th century. The nonprofit organization was established in 1947 to dispel the mounting belief among the nation’s youth that the American Dream was no longer attainable.

Our recent class of Horatio Alger scholarship recipients not only prove that the American Dream is attainable, they also represent a growing number of APS students who are charting a path to college. Armed with more than $129 million in scholarship offers, look for the Class of 2010 to do great things in the months and years to come.
