More good news from M. Agnes Jones: Cool dads!

by talkupaps

There’s a really interesting article in today’s AJC about a volunteer program for dads at Stockbridge’s Woodland Academy. But there’s also a really nice mention about a similar but as-yet-unnamed effort at APS’ M. Agnes Jones Elementary. Weirdly, the same article appeared on their Web site a week ago, but no matter. (Also, what’s up with M. Agnes Jones and all the cool things they’re doing. They appear to be on quite a roll … See post below!)
Here’s the M. Agnes Jones mention in today’s paper  …

While there is no formal program for dads at M. Agnes Jones Elementary, their presence is hard to miss at the southwest Atlanta school.
They ride school buses in the afternoon, help supervise students in the cafeteria, attend field trips, hold fundraisers and host an annual parent vs. staff basketball game. Last year they built a KaBoom! Playground.
At any give time, there are at least 20 dads on call for volunteer duty, said Quinton Gist, PTA treasurer and father of a 7-year-old daughter.
“We pretty much do what ever they need,” said Gist, a music promoter.
Aside from daily bus duty, Gist makes his presence known, “so my daughter gets the best education she can.”
“I like doing it,” he said. “It’s important to me to be a good role model.”
