Benjamin E. Mays High School celebrated boys head basketball coach Desmond Williams during halftime of its game against Maynard Jackson High School for reaching 100 career wins.
The Mays Raiders basketball team defeated Douglass High School 73-70 on November 22, 2025, to help coach Williams reach the century mark and add to his winning legacy at the school.
“[Reaching 100 career wins] really means a lot,” Williams said. “It’s a very big thing with longevity. It’s a key thing with my coaching staff, the program that I’ve built, and the guys that came through the program.
Williams, who won a state championship at Mays during his senior year (2004), led last year’s team to the GHSA state quarterfinals. He believes the 2025-2026 Mays Raiders can go all the way [to the state championship].
Through December 9, 2025, the Mays boys basketball team is 8-1 to start the season.
