More than 100 second gradersĀ at Sarah Smith Elementary School were treated to a civics lesson by Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed lastĀ week, asĀ they gained insight aboutĀ theĀ importance of government, the responsibilities ofĀ a city mayor, and how preparation and hard work willĀ help make them successful in life.
“You have to work hard in school and prepare, because preparation is very important,” said Reed, whose visitĀ marked the culmination of a unit on government and leadership. “I know that your futures are very bright.”
During theĀ visit, Reed shared his personal journey and gave students the opportunity to ask questions. They learned about his mayoral responsibilities, how much he enjoys meeting students, and the necessity of cooperating with other local and regional municipalities.
