This year, the faculty and staff at Young Middle School took to the streets to spread the message of open house and the first day of school throughout the community.
Choosing to use their flexible work day on Saturday, August 3, 2013, school leaders, teachers and staff members spent the day going door-to-door throughout neighborhoods, conducting student home visits in the school zone prior to the opening of school.
Teachers passed out a community newsletter highlighting information such as dress code expectations, PTSA information, FAQs, administration contact information, parent center information, and a message from the principal, counselors, and parent liaison.
“The community endeavor was well received by the community, ” said Dr. Kelvin Griffin, principal of Young Middle School. “Many students and parents were excited to see the JCYMS staff in the neighborhoods, and this community endeavor will be integrated into the fabric of the JCYMS culture.”
