On Monday, November 9, 2020 Atlanta Public Schools (APS) hosted two commencement ceremonies honoring the Class of 2020 at Lakewood Stadium! This class has persevered through an ever-changing global pandemic, racial injustice and a historic election to be etched in history books to come. 2020, has indeed been a challenging year, however, our seniors never lost hope.
In May 2020, APS seniors declared their most coveted moment to date would be #WorthTheWait! The District heard their voices and committed to honoring their wishes to host an in-person ceremony.
APS administration worked strategically to determine how and when an in-person ceremony would be safe to host. After several set backs, the ceremonies finally took place on November 9, 2020!
We hope the Class of 2020 cherished this moment of reconnection and celebration. Although small, the graduates who attended their ceremony embraced what has been rightfully theirs since the beginning. The right to celebrate, laugh, cry and make their loved ones proud.

Class of 2020, you have taught your peers how to be patient, yet determined. It is the District’s hope that you will share your road to graduation with future generations to come. Your stories and outspoken hearts have not only prepared you for graduation, but for the journey that lies ahead. #APSGrad2020 is #WorthTheWait!
