APS Celebrates the 2025 Attendance Awareness Poster Contest Winners at September Board Meeting

by Allison M. Slocum

September is National Attendance Awareness Month, and Atlanta Public Schools marked the occasion with a poster contest led by the Office of Social Services. The contest invited PreK–12 students to create original artwork about the value of showing up to school.

More than 150 entries were submitted for the Attendance Awareness Poster Contest, which centered on the theme “Here Today, Ready for Tomorrow!”. The theme reminded students that consistent attendance supports their success today and lays the foundation for their future.

Judging occurred at the Student and Family Support Hub on August 27, and the winners were announced at the September 2 Atlanta Board of Education meeting.

Please join us in congratulating the 2025 APS Attendance Awareness Poster Contest winners, whose work is now on display in the lobby of the Alonzo A. Crim Center for Learning and Leadership:

  • Allison Wilson — 1st grade, Springdale Park Elementary
  • Amelia Lipsig — 2nd grade, Morris Brandon Elementary
  • Benjamin Armstrong — 4th grade, Bolton Academy
  • Janae Atkins — 6th grade, Herman J. Russell West End Academy
  • Sofia Navarro — 10th grade, Midtown High School

APS is committed to ensuring its students have specialized care. This includes expanding strategies that reduce chronic absenteeism and disproportionate discipline through the implementation of its Strategic Plan.
