Atlanta Public Schools Hosted its 3rd Annual E-Sports Pathway Program Tournament

Atlanta Public Schools made history this spring as more than 200 elementary and middle school students representing 42 campuses converged for the third annual APS Esports Pathway Program Tournament. Hosted at North Atlanta High School on April 26, 2025, the tournament was the capstone event of a year-long program where students engaged in competitive gaming and explored high-demand STEM careers.

Throughout the school year, students participated in structured lessons introducing them to game writing, game artistry, sound design, game science, game production, cloud engineering, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and game programming. This unique blend of hands-on gaming and digital learning helps prepare students with essential 21st-century skills while exposing them to real-world career pathways in the gaming and technology industries.

The tournament gave the top-performing students the opportunity to represent their schools and showcase their skills in games like Super Smash Bros., Rocket League, NBA2K, and Minecraft Education. It was not only a celebration of student achievement in gaming but also honored their year-long growth in creativity, collaboration, and career readiness.
