Atlanta Braves and Truist Partner to Build New Batting Cage for Therrell High School Baseball and Softball

The Atlanta Braves and Truist Bank cut the ribbon to open the new batting cage and field improvements at Therrell High School.

The Therrell High School baseball and softball teams have a brand new, covered batting cage to practice in thanks to the partnership between the Atlanta Braves and Truist Bank.

“I call it ‘The Bentley’,” Therrell High School baseball coach Ryan Christian said. “Having a batting cage like this shows the investment that the Braves, Truist, our district and administration have in our kids.”

Therrell High School is the third school in Atlanta Public Schools (APS) to receive field improvements, new fencing, wind screens, and some basic equipment from the Braves Parks Project. The Atlanta Braves, the Atlanta Braves Foundation, and Truist have previously partnered to enhance the baseball and softball facilities at Booker T. Washington High School and Frederick Douglass High School.

“A big goal of ours is supporting the APS baseball and softball programs and really helping to reenergize the game across the city,” said Atlanta Braves Vice President of Community Affairs Daniel Bedasse. “This is a gift from the Braves and from Truist to the incredible baseball and softball players at Therrell, both for the work that they are doing on the field and off. The Panthers are doing such a great job. We wanted to get behind the athletics department here and bring some energy to baseball and softball.”

Both Therrell High School baseball and softball have exhibited excellence on the field.

Therrell High School softball, which won just five games in 2023, went 11-6 (4-2) and finished third in 2A Region 5 for the 2024-2025 season. The seniors on the baseball team have posted winning records in each of the last three seasons and finished 11-7-1 during the 2023-2024 season. The baseball team opens its 2025 season in the APS tournament on Feb. 10.

“Now, thanks to the Braves and Truist, we have a ‘Bentley’ for us to use,” Christian said. “We have the foundation laid and now it’s time to make people believe in what we’re doing here.”
