APS celebrates student achievement with first #IamAPS Sneakers and Scholarships

by Thomas Scott

The first #IamAPS Sneakers and Scholarships Ball was an evening to remember inside Mercedes Benz Stadium as Atlanta Public Schools honored celebrated alumni, influential Atlantans, and most importantly, 16 deserving seniors who were each awarded $10,000 in scholarships.

The fundraiser, which was a continuation of APS’ 150th anniversary celebration, surpassed its goal and raised $160,000 for the student scholarships.  After two impressive student performances by the Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy (CSKYWLA) Hummingbirds choir and the CSKYWLA dance troupe, the evening was ready to begin.

APS district leaders, sponsorship partners, honorees, students, and guests were all about this year’s theme, and showed off their stylish shoe game for the evening.

But the night was truly about recognizing the award winners and scholars for their display of excellence in Community Impact, Education, Entertainment, Entrepreneurship, Athletics, Public Service, Social Justice, and Trailblazing.

Here are this year’s award winners and scholarship recipients:
