Sarah Smith Elementary School is recognized by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement as one of six highest-performing schools in Georgia. The school received a Bronze award based on data from its recent College and Career Ready Performance Index  (CCRPI) scores.

Sarah Smith Elementary School Principal Dr. Michael Forehand is extremely proud of his school’s consistent track record of academic excellence.
According to the recent Single Statewide Accountability System Award (SSAS) Schools recognition by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA), Sarah Smith and five other elementary schools – Mary Lin, Morningside, Morris Brandon, Springdale Park, and Warren T. Jackson – are among the highest-performing elementary schools in Georgia. GOSA used College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) data from the 2012-2013, 2013-2014, and 2014-2015 school years to determine Greatest Gains and Highest Performing SSAS awards.
Like his APS counterparts, Dr. Forehand attributed his school’s success to committed, dedicated teachers who go above and beyond the call of duty.
“We have excellent teachers who engage students in authentic, vocabulary-rich work that is relevant and meaningful,” Dr. Forehand said. “Many people are not aware of the vast diversity our school is proud to have. Our percentage of students with special needs, English language learners, and those who are economically disadvantaged account for 23 percent of our population. Our students also represent 21 different languages. Here at Sarah Smith, teachers use research-based instructional strategies, weekly data monitoring, and character building through the IB Primary Years Program to help all students become successful academically, as well as in life, regardless of the challenges that lie in the way.”
In addition to the highest-performing schools, Carver Early College, Inman Middle School and KIPP Strive Academy received “Greatest Gains” honors.
Each SSAS awards category has a Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze tier. Highest Performing schools must earn a three-year average CCRPI Achievement Score in at least the 93rd percentile. Greatest Gains schools must earn a three-year average CCRPI Progress Score in at least the 93rd percentile.
