Day One APS: Students and Staff Hit the Ground Running Ready to Learn

Excited about the first day of school, Day One! I stopped by four schools to see how the students were getting into the groove.

My first stop was at Burgess-Peterson Academy, where I met fifth-grader Laila Burgess-Kattoula. She told me how excited she was to make her last year in elementary school the best she could.

On the way out, I spoke with Burgess-Peterson Academy Principal David White, who told me he was hoping all APS schools were enjoying a great first day.

I then stopped by Dunbar Elementary and checked in on a first grade class while they were in the middle of a lesson to wish them a wonderful first day of school.

Quiana Chambers, math instructional coach at Dunbar Elementary, stopped to tell me about how amazing the first day was going and the plans she had for the year.

At Booker T. Washington High School, assistant principal Tracy Harrell gave a thumbs up to “Day One” as classes were under way.

Over at Hope Hill Elementary School, Ms. Hills’ first grade class was also getting their day started. The theme for Hope-Hill this school year is “The Sky’s the Limit.”
