Jovanay Carter is Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy ‘s Star Student and Class of 2015 Valedictorian

Since 8th grade, Jovanay Carter has been a proud member of the sisterhood at Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy. During her high school years, she has been named a 4.0 Principal’s Honor Roll scholar, participated on Varsity Cross Country Team, served as Senior Class President, and was awarded Most Valuable Player in track and field three years in a row. With aspirations to become a prima ballerina, she is also a passionate contemporary dancer who received training at the CSK Dance Theater and Atlanta Ballet. She has worked as a Project ENGAGES scholar at Georgia Institute of Technology, researching stem cell therapies for vascular remodeling and tissue repair. Furthermore, she has received over 22 college/university acceptances and is currently awaiting decisions from eight Ivy League colleges and universities. She is inspired by the excerpt, “I am the master of my fate and the captain of my soul” from the poem Invictus by William Ernest Henley.

Major: Biomedical Engineering with a Minor in Dance
