College and Career Readiness Day at Humphries Elementary School

Ms. Humphreys’ and Ms. Lasley’s Class – Humphries Elementary School
On November 20, 2014 at Humphries Elementary School, it was College Career Day! This is the day where we learn what we want to be when we grow up. We met people like Kimberly Green, media relations manager from Atlanta Public Schools; Dr. Stephanie Johnson from the VA Hospital; Mr. Bolton, the shirt maker (who is known as Ms. Woods’ brother); and Sgt. Denice Luke from the U.S. Air Force.
The first person we met in Ms. Humphreys’ and Ms. Lasley’s class was Sgt. Luke. We didn’t know that she was a sergeant and part of the U.S. Air Force. She told us about the five military branches: Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy, and Coast Guard. Sgt. Luke also told us about all the kinds of weapons used in the military.
Then we met Dr. Stephanie Johnson from the VA Hospital. She talked to us about diseases and she told us about the importance of getting a flu shot. For example, Dr. Johnson told us about Ebola and how to converse that disease. And most of all, she told us about our heart.

Our last speaker was Kimberly Green from Atlanta Public Schools. She told us about her job and how she met everyone on the news. She also assigned us to write this article.
Overall, Career Day at Humphries Elementary was a great day to learn about these people.
