Earlier this afternoon, when Maynard Jackson High School senior Diamond Reese crossed the stage at the Atlanta Civic Center, it marked the culmination of a hard earned and prestigious high school career as a scholar athlete.
Earlier this school year, Diamond was named Class 3A Athlete of the Week for the three consecutive weeks, recognizing her accomplishments as a shot putter and discus thrower with the Jackson High Lady Jaguar’s Track and Field team.  This was the first time in the school’s history that any athlete received this honor 3 weeks in a row.
Most recently she became the Georgia track and field shot put state champion and Diamond,  also a star in the classroom graduated with as an honors student with a 3.5 GPA. Diamond has earned more than $220,000 in scholarship offers.  She received academic scholarship offers from Hanover College and Lynn University. Middle Tennessee State University, Jackson State University and Georgia Southern all offered her athletic scholarships.
Diamond was also the female recipient of the Coca-Cola Athletic Achievement Award and received the Maynard Jackson High Principal Award for being the most all around student. Â She has chosen to attend Georgia Southern University on a $53,000 athletic scholarship.
An impressive group of students, the Maynard Jackson High School Class of 2014 received $2.226 million dollars in scholarship money with students offered scholarships and or acceptance letters to attend Columbia University, Savannah State, Temple, Rutgers, St. Johns, Brandeis, College of William and Mary, Ohio State, Hampton, Alabama A&M, Georgia State, Howard, George Washington University, Albany State and Syracuse University.
