Finalists from Cleveland Avenue Elementary, KIPP WAYS Academy and North Atlanta High School will compete to become the Atlanta Public Schools(APS) 2013-2014 Teacher of the Year during an awards ceremony on October 17 at 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Benjamin E. Mays High School, located at 3450 Benjamin E. Mays Drive in Atlanta.
Candidates for APS Teacher of the Year are nominated by their respective schools. APS then selects an elementary, middle school and high school teacher of the year from a list of semi-finalists to compete for the districtwide honor. The 2013-2014 finalists are as follows:
Elementary School Teacher of the Year
Rita Simmons – Cleveland Avenue Elementary
Gifted and talented teacher, grades K-5
Middle School Teacher of the Year
Nathaniel Snyder – KIPP WAYS Academy (APS charter school)
Social studies teacher, Grade 6
High School Teacher of the Year
Danielle Gilley Costarides – North Atlanta High School
