Student Spotlight of the Week

najlaName: Najla Clark

Grade: 5th Grade

School: Kimberly Elementary School

Najla Clark, a 5th grade student at Kimberly Elementary School, is hardworking, successful and determined to reach for the stars. According to Najla’s 4th grade teacher, Mr. Arnold, she possesses all of the positive character traits you could ask for in a student, including honesty and integrity.

“If you have ever known a student who is excited to learn and wants to help others learn, then you know what Najla is like,” Mr. Arnold explained. “She is a reliable student who genuinely enjoys helping others. She gets along with everyone, has a great personality, and outstanding academics.”

Najla has always made the honor roll and exceeded in Reading and Math on the 4th grade CRCT.

Najla has set immediate goals, as well as ambitious goals for her future.  As a new 5th grade student, she plans to join the safety patrol, reading bowl team, K-Kids and Beta Club.  Najla aspires to one day become a chef, and she enjoys practicing her culinary skills by cooking for her family.

Najla is currently an anchor for the Busy Buzzy Bee Show, the morning announcement team at Kimberly.  She has been a critical part of this team for 2 years.

“I can count on her to be on time and report the news accurately,” says Mr. Jolly, the advisor of the Kimberly news show.

adamName: Adam Chandler

Grade: 7th Grade

School: Price Middle School

Friendly, helpful and always smiling are just some of the ways to describe Price Wildcat Adam Chandler.  He describes himself as sensitive and fun.  Adam loves to eat pizza, listen to a variety of music and dance.  His favorite subject in school is math because he says it deals with money.  His least favorite subject is Language Arts because he believes it is a fairly easy concept for him to grasp, and he enjoys being challenged.

Conquering challenges is a reoccurring theme with Adam.

He is currently enrolled in French at Price Middle School and enjoys the challenge of learning a new language. He hopes to raise money to travel to France this summer.  He participates in the Afterschool All – Star program, and he hopes to get involved with other clubs and organizations this school year.

Adam aspires to one day become an electrical engineer, and he would like to invent a robot that can help him study and retain more knowledge.

“I enjoy being a Price Wildcat because it gives me a new experience to see who I really am,” Adam explained.

Adam is a young man with a bright future, but he also has a selfless heart.  When asked what he would change in the world he responded, “Homelessness.  I want everyone to live in a home.  Everyone deserves that.”

With his self-confidence and determination, Adam will certainly have a positive impact on his school and community.

Grade: 3rd Grade

School: Parkside Elementary School

Breahn Boswell is an exemplary third grade student with ambition, dreams, and talents at Parkside Elementary School. She exhibits a stellar level of academic achievement, and always strives for excellence in her work. She is an honor student, and received awards for Principal’s List, art, Spanish, music, chorus, and citizenship.

Breahn has a passion for music, and is an accomplished singer. She hopes to become a concert singer in the future and perform in concert halls across the country. Her most recent success in her rising singing career was auditioning for the Atlanta Young Singers.

She loves to learn new things and is full of aspiration at a young age. She greatly admires her mother and father for encouraging her to pursue her dreams.

Breahn is a model student with great potential and bright future. She strives for high achievement in all her endeavors, and is driven to be successful.

Name:  Angel CrawfordStudent Spotlight 2013_CSK_Angel Crawford

Grade: 7th 

School: Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Acadamy (CSKYWLA) Middle School

Angel Crawford is an outstanding 7th grade student from Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy. She takes pride in earning As and leading by example.  Angel is a trailblazer and believes in helping others reach their full potential. She participates on the debate team, technology team, robotics team, and she is a member of the BETA Club.  This summer Angel was selected to participate in the Youth Leadership Summer Academy where she was voted “Most Likely to Succeed.”  She also leads CSKYWLA Middle School’s morning communication team, and she is an active member of the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl team.

Angel enjoys reading, playing basketball, shopping, tennis and hanging out with her friends, and with her bubbly personality Angel never meets a stranger.  When asked what she loved most about CSKYWLA, Angel replied, “the CSK Experience and what it affords me to do.”  She went on to elaborate on the numerous opportunities she has had through the After-School All-Stars program such as Lego Ladies, Digital Storytelling, field trips, and Fitness Tuesday.

LaJuana Ezzard, Angel’s Reading Bowl Coach says, “Angel is an exceptional student.  We call her our ‘go-to’ person, because we can depend on her for anything, even at the last minute. She works very hard, and gives her all in everything she does.”

Angel’s favorite subject is math, and she wants to become a member of the SWAT team when she grows up.
