by Julia Suk, APS Communications Officer On August 19th, Burgess-Peterson Academy kicked off their 3rd year of weekly Monday meetings. Students, staff, and parents are excited as they gather every Monday morning from 8:00 – 8:30 am to celebrate their students and school, while focusing on learning and success in the classroom. Burgess-Peterson Academy invited Captain Planet as a special guest to their first meeting of the year to spread the message of keeping our environment safe. The students facilitate the meetings every week and rotate by grade level. This strategy keeps the students engaged, builds confidence, and teaches them to listen and speak. The third grade students successfully led the first meeting, and hosted a Trivia game. The topics included academic achievement, accelerated reader, and learning in the classroom. Students are highlighted for their attendance and achieving goals, and the student of the month is celebrated. Burgess-Peterson Academy students are energized by these weekly meetings and enter the classroom eager to begin their day.
