The Consequences of Thug Life Presentation at Price Middle School

by talkupaps

PriceConsequences3Choices.  We sometimes make good ones, sometimes bad.  As adults we try to guide our students to make good choices.  Attorney Mawuli Davis of the DavisBozeman Law Firm came to Price Middle School and spoke about making good decisions and choices.  Price’s sixth and seventh grade students attended the one hour long “Consequences of Thug Life” presentation in the media center on Monday May 13th and Tuesday May 14th during their connections block.  Attorney Davis presented real life examples of people making choices that have impacted their lives in negative ways.   He gave the students a true or false quiz on their knowledge of the law and its consequences and provided the students with this math example:  if you commit armed robbery and steal $1000, you are sentenced to ten years in prison.  The math works out to $.01 an hour for the prison time.  The students were stunned to see the reality of making this bad choice.

Attorney Davis spoke of a Spelman student who was killed.  Her boyfriend had made some bad decisions and was targeted for something that happened before they met.  This young woman’s life was ended because of an association with someone who made bad decisions.  Mr. Davis spoke about the importance of having friends that are making good decisions and are on the same positive path that you want for yourself.

Rapper and TV personality Lil Scrappy from “Love and Hip Hop” spoke to the students about choices he made when he was younger and how he is working to recover from those decisions.  He strongly recommended to the students to stay in school and stay on the right track.

This presentation was arranged by former Price Alumni members Mr. Michael Langford and Mr. Derrick Boazman as part of the Operation Take Back program.
