Seaworld Penguins Waddle With Burgess-Peterson Academy

On April 5th, Burgess-Peterson students enjoyed a special visit with Magellanic penguins named Pete and Penny from Seaworld!  The presentation was interactive with educational facts and activities related to penguins. The students learned about the various types of penguins, their habitats, characteristics and more.

Seaworld presented the physical characteristics of penguins by selecting a student volunteer to put on a penguin suit. The students learned about the body parts as the volunteer put on the blubber suit, feathers, flippers, and feet. Seaworld also selected 6 student volunteers to participate in a relay race with an egg. The students had to transfer the egg to their partner using only their feet. This activity demostrated how male and female penguins take turns watching over their egg. Seaworld also encouraged students to help penguins by recycling and keeping the rule “don’t trash where you splash.”
