FourthĀ grade students atĀ Peyton ForestĀ Elementary School recently took part in a Ā fun and interactive presentation about weather.
The CBS Atlanta WeatherĀ School offered the students an opportunity to learn about severe weather, television weather forecasting, and fun weather facts. The students enjoyed an engaging and hands-on presentation with Severe Weather Meteorologist, Cris Martinez. He can be seen anchoring the weather weeknights at 4, 5, 6, and 11p.m.
Martinez spoke with the students aboutĀ the characteristicsĀ of thunderstorms, tornadoes, and hurricanes. He also had the students participate in demonstrations illustrating howĀ each weather system is formed. After the demonstrations, the studentsĀ watched video of Martinez covering a recentĀ hurricane in Mississippi. MartinezĀ also spoke with the students about working in broadcast, and he explained how he got his start in the industry.
Following the in-depth discussions and presentations, the students went inside of the CBS live news truck. Martinez showed them the ins and outs of the truck, explained how a live signal is sent back to the news station, and pointed out all of the various buttons and screens inside of the vehicle. The students were very excited and had a great time learning about weather and news. Many thanks to CBS Atlanta for providing this opportunity for the students at Peyton Forest!
