Dream Jamboree: Dreaming Big for the Future

Preparing for college and beyond is a top priority for students at Atlanta Public Schools. Recently, several students from Kennedy Middle School attended the Dream Jamboree at the Georgia World Congress Center on January 25, 2013. During the event students were given the opportunity to meet with college recruiters from an array of colleges and universities.

Kennedy’s counselor, Mrs. Shiva Walker, prepared the students before they attended Dream Jamboree. She explained to them the importance of selecting the right college and asking the right questions to find out what amenities a school offers, such as financial aid and student activities. On the day of the Dream Jamboree, Kennedy students were excited and anxious to learn about colleges and universities.  As students boarded the bus to go to the Georgia World Congress Center they began shouting the school of their choice for all to hear.

“I am highly anticipating attending the University of Miami where they have a winning football team, the “Hurricanes”, and to bask in the warm weather, since today is one of those cold days,” explained Amber Thomas.

Students are excited to represent Atlanta Public Schools at Dream Jamboree.

Kadasia Clark said she plans to stay within the Metro Atlanta area and attend Clark Atlanta University, where she hopes to major in psychology. Other students mentioned attending Georgia State University or Duke University. No matter which schools these students were interested in, one thing is for certain–Kennedy students are certainly joyful and prepared to embark upon college in a few years.

“Our students at Kennedy Middle School are highly motivated and are looking forward to attending the college of their choice,” explained Davida Sales, Media Specialist at Kennedy Middle School. “The Dream Jamboree gives them the chance to gain valuable information in selecting the right college or university.”
