Prior to the board’s consideration, however, the Department of Organizational Advancement will present information about the proposed calendars to the community.

The district calendar meetings will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in each region as follows:

·        South Region: January 22 – South Atlanta High School

·        West Region: January 23 – Mays High School

·        East Region: January 28 – Inman Middle School

·       North Region: January 29 – Douglass High School

In response to a request from NAPPS, Mrs. Rebecca Kaye, chair of the Calendar Committee, will make a presentation at the January 23rd “State of the N. Atlanta Cluster” meeting. The meeting will be held from 12:00 – 1:00 pm, at Warren T. Jackson Elementary Primary Campus, 4191 Northside Drive, Atlanta, Georgia 30342.

@talkupaps If you are reffering to the Northside meetings help earlier this year in regards to redistricting the school districts, I would like to remind you of the 48 hour meeting notice during the APS spring break time frame. I would significanty argue that APS considers the needs of its communnity. Also, those meetings district specific, not APS wide. I would be remiss if I didn’t bring up these disparate practices. APS has a continuing history of racial discrimination, corruption, and negligence. Feel free to begin to serve the needs of all of your students at any time.

@MarcyChapman Every effort is made to accommodate all of our parents and students in the district when it comes to the locations of our public forums. Community meetings hosted by the district have been held at a variety of North Region schools over the past 12 months at locations such as Douglass HS, Bolton Academy, North Atlanta HS, Garden Hills ES, Jackson ES, CSK HS, BEST HS and others. Great care is taken to rotate meetings in all regions to allow for the greatest amount of parental participation. Demographics played no role in the decision making process. Thank you for the feedback and we look forward to seeing you at one or more of the many city-wide meetings.

@Hillary The link for online comment, beginning Tuesday, will be http://www.atlantapublicschools.us/calendarcomment. We look forward to hearing your input.

Sorry Hillary, if you look at the locations of the schools where the meetings will be held, they are clearly not accommodating to those students who attend APS schools on the Northside. However, if you look at the demographics of the schools where the meetings will be held and the staff at APS you can see why accommodations weren’t made.

Ms. Yarmowich,

All four of the calendar forums are open citywide if another meeting location or evening is more convenient for you.

We’ll be posting the proposed calendars as well as frequently asked questions and other background information on the website after the board meeting on Monday (assuming that the board accepts the calendars for first reading). 🙂

Dear APS: Please consider scheduling an additional meeting to service the North Atlanta Cluster. Getting anywhere mid week, at rush hour is difficult… let alone Douglas High School, which is so far from where we live. Many of us participated in the survey and are anxious to learn more about the calendar considerations. Also, have you published the results of the survey? If so, please provide a link. Thank you, Hillary Yarmowich
