All Jewish holy days begin the evening before the first day. APS needs to stop being retroactive with their ‘oops’ scheduling and proactive with their own policy JAA/Equal Educational Oppportunities for all students. Assistant Superintendent for the Department of Teaching and Learning, Dr. Linda Anderson, is aware of the disrespectful scheduling for both Challenge Program Testing and this meeting. She has committed to contacting me with her response after speaking to her staff that felt it was not their responsibility to be aware of cultural observances on the calendar. I am hopeful, an will only accept a change of procedure, that APS will follow the policies they have set and the ones set by our state and country. Please contact Dr. Anderson at ldanderson@atlanta.k12.ga.us or (404) 802-1684 with your voice.

Assistant Superintendent of the Department for Teaching and Learning, Dr. Linda Anderson is aware of these conflicts and is checking with her staff. It is my hope, and the only acceptable response, that APS will follow their own policy JAA/Equal Educational Opportunities and not disregard the Multi cultural observances of all APS students. I am expecting a call from her on Tuesday, September 25, and will post her response. If this is a concern for you, whether it affects your family or your school community, send her an email at: ldanderson@atlanta.k12.ga.us or call (404) 802-1684.

Just wondering why an important meeting such as this one has been scheduled for the night of Yom Kippur, the most holy Jewish holiday on the calendar???
