Hope-Hill Art Unveiled at Airport

by talkupaps

On August 23rd, students from Hope-Hill Elementary School were privileged to have their artwork unveiled at the north terminal of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport for the Atlanta Military Gateway Youth Art Project. The artwork will be viewed by tens of thousands of airport passengers from across the globe and will greet U.S. military personnel as they arrive at their north terminal check-in counter.

Several students of AfterSchool CLASSE’ have been collaborating with their art teacher to create individual pieces of artwork that honored the troops. A special ceremony was held at the airport, which included the attendance of several troops, airport general manager and Atlanta City Councilman Kwanza Hall. “The ‘Year of Boulevard’ is cleared for landing at the airport,” said Kwanza Hall, referring to his year-long initiative that is bringing social services, public safety improvements, and cultural enrichment opportunities to children and families of District 2’s most underserved neighborhood, the Boulevard corridor. Several students stepped out of their comfort zone by presenting speeches and were interviewed by Kwanza Hall as well.

“We are so proud of our students and thankful for the opportunity for the world to see their beautiful works of art,” said Hope-Hill Interim Principal Barbara Lashley. It was a very special experience for the students as they received a tour of the airport and had an opportunity to showcase their talent and hard work with the world.

Could we see some of the art? I know I would love to.
