The 4th Annual Calvin “Monk” Jones Lecture Series is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at B.E.S.T. Academy, 1890 Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy, Atlanta 30318. Former Detroit Lions cornerback LaMar Campbell will be the featured speaker at the event, which serves an annual forum for APS student athletes to dialogue with current and former professional athletes. The event also honors all APS graduating scholar athletes and coaches with awards presented by The Coca-Cola Company. In 1975 Calvin “Monk” Jones became the first African-American assistant basketball coach at the University of Georgia (UGA). In June 2009, Jones was inducted into the Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame. Jones is a former coach at Carver High School, who took his team to two AA division titles.
