Public Hearings Announced for D.H. Stanton Elementary and Towns Elementary Schools

by talkupaps

After conducting a comprehensive assessment of all schools and completing an in-depth demographic/capacity study, the superintendent has recommended in his final proposal that Daniel H. Stanton Elementary School and George A. Towns Elementary School close at the end of the 2011-2012 school year.  APS will host two community meetings at D.H. Stanton Elementary and at Towns Elementary to discuss the recommendation. The dates and times for the meetings are as follows:

  • Thursday, April 5, 2012, at 6:30 p.m.
  • Monday, April 9, 2012, at 6:30 p.m.

Under the proposal, students living in the D.H. Stanton zone would be reassigned to one of the following schools: Benteen Elementary or Parkside Elementary, both K-5 schools.

Students living in the Towns zone would be reassigned to one of the following schools:  Fain Elementary (a K-5 school), Scott Elementary (a K-5 school) or Adamsville-Miles Elementary (a merged school split between two campuses, one for K-2 and the other for grades 3-5).

Parents and community members may also submit feedback on the current proposal by emailing apsredistricting@atlantapublicschools.us. The superintendent reserves the right to amend his proposal, prior to submitting it to the Board of Education, based on new facts that he may receive.
