Notice of Public Hearing – Cook Elementary, East Lake Elementary, Fain Elementary

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

The Atlanta Board of Education will hold two public hearings on March 15, 2012, and March 19, 2012, during which officials from Atlanta Public Schools will discuss the proposed closure of Ed S. Cook Elementary School. No vote will be taken at these public hearings.

Both hearings will start at 6:30 p.m. at Cook Elementary, located at 211 Memorial Dr. S.E., Atlanta, Georgia 30312.

Students living in the Cook zone will be reassigned to the schools listed below. The school sizes as a result of the proposed closure and reassignment are also listed below.

  • Centennial Place Elementary – a K-5 school – is expected to have an enrollment of approximately 384 students.
  • Hope-Hill Elementary – a K-5 school – is expected to have an enrollment of approximately 398 students.
  • D.H. Stanton Elementary – a K-5 school – is expected to have an enrollment of approximately 528 students.
  • Whitefoord Elementary – a K-5 school – is expected to have an enrollment of approximately 308 students.

Atlanta Public Schools is in the process of determining the future use of the Cook facility. Cook may be used as a relocation site, administrative site or nontraditional learning center, or the school may be leased, sold or demolished.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

The Atlanta Board of Education will hold two public hearings on March 17, 2012, at        9 a.m. and March 22, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. Officials from Atlanta Public Schools will discuss the proposed closure of East Lake Elementary School. No vote will be taken at these public hearings.

Both hearings will take place at East Lake Elementary, located at 145 Fourth Avenue S.E., Atlanta, Georgia 30317.

Students living in the East Lake zone will be reassigned to Toomer Elementary, a K–5 school. As a result of the proposed closure and reassignment, Toomer Elementary is expected to have an enrollment of approximately 359 students.

Atlanta Public Schools is in the process of determining the future use of the East Lake facility. East Lake may be used as a relocation site, administrative site or nontraditional learning center, or the school may be leased, sold or demolished.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

The Atlanta Board of Education will hold two public hearings on March 23, 2012, and March 29, 2012, during which officials from Atlanta Public Schools will discuss the proposed closure of Margaret Fain Elementary School. No vote will be taken at these public hearings.

Both hearings will start at 6:30 p.m. at Fain Elementary, located at 101 Hemphill School Road N.W., Atlanta, Georgia 30331.

Students living in the Fain zone will be reassigned to the schools listed below. The school sizes as a result of the proposed closure and reassignment are also listed below.

  • Adamsville-Miles Elementary – a merged school split between two campuses, one for K-2 and the other for grades 3-5 – is expected to have an enrollment of approximately 1,034 students.
  • Peyton Forest Elementary – a K-5 school – is expected to have an enrollment of approximately 485 students.
  • Towns Elementary – a K-5 school – is expected to have an enrollment of approximately 503 students.

Atlanta Public Schools is in the process of determining the future use of the Fain facility. Fain may be used as a relocation site, administrative site or nontraditional learning center, or the school may be leased, sold or demolished.
