Perkerson students meet Representative Stacy Abrams while visiting the State Capitol.

Fifth grade students from Perkerson Elementary School recently attended “Lobby Day” at the Capitol hosted by Spelman Alumnae: Senator Gail Davenport, District 44, Minority House Leader, Representative Stacey Abrams, District 84 and Representative Alisha Thomas Morgan, District 39

The visit included visiting the Chamber of both the House and the Senate to hear presentations by the National Alumnae Association of Spelman College, Atlanta Chapter recognizing the elected official alumnae of Spelman. Lunch with Atlanta Chapter in Room 216, and lunch visits and presentations by various Elected Officials including Senator Vincent Fort, District 39, Senator Donzella James, District 35, Senator Emmanuel Jones, District 10, Representative Tyrone Brooks, District 63. Rep. Roger Bruce, District 64, Rep. Ralph Long III, District 61 and more.

Each official gave “progress reports” on their Committee or the progress of work they were doing in the Community. Students were encouraged to be active and be a voice in their community no matter how young or how old.

Every voice counts, every vote counts!
