Next generation of APS juniors and seniors headed toward the “Little Ivies”

by talkupaps

K12 College & Career Readiness hosted the Fifth Annual 21st Century Atlanta Scholars Induction Ceremony for highly talented juniors and seniors from schools across the district.

Students were selected into the program for their high academic ranking, leadership and willingness to pursue highly selective colleges and universities broadly and specifically, the “Little Ivies,” including Amherst College, Bowdoin College, Colby College, College of the Holy Cross, Davidson College, Hamilton College, Hampshire College, Middlebury College, Oberlin College, Wellesley College and Wesleyan University. Scholars, currently in the program, assisted in the tradition of “passing the torch” to the new class.

After receiving the torch, newly inducted scholars took a personal “Oath of a Scholar.”  The oath was a vow to excellence, civic and community engagement, and life-long learning. Scholars also received a warm welcome from the newest Atlanta Public Schools’ board member, Ms. Nesha Simama.  In all, scholars, family members and supporters enjoyed the evening and are excited about their participation in the program.
