Coretta Scott King Academy students to make second attempt to attend Martin Luther King Memorial dedication in D.C.

 ATLANTA – Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy students are set to make their second attempt to attend dedication ceremonies for the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, scheduled for Sunday, October 16 in Washington, D.C..  The first trip was cancelled earlier this year due to a hurricane that forced postponement of the ceremonies.

Coretta Scott King Academy middle and high school students have been preparing for the trip since the beginning of the school year by studying the life and times of the civil rights leader for whom the national memorial in Washington, D.C. will be dedicated Sunday. The students will also travel by train to D.C., which will provide additional opportunities for group study and reflection on their experiences.  Coretta Scott King Academy is one of APS’ single gender schools for middle and high school girls.

News media representatives are invited to interview the students and their administrators regarding the significance of the trip and the dedication event from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday, October 12 and 13. The school is located at 1190 Northwest Drive, Atlanta 30318.

The students leave for Washington, D.C. at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 13 from the Atlanta AMTRACK Station, 1688 Peachtree Street, Atlanta 30309.  They are scheduled to arrive at the station at 6 p.m.  News media representatives are invited to cover the students at the station prior to their departure for D.C.
